Parent Newsletter--August 4, 2017

Dear Trail Ridge Families,

Please review the following information for back to school information.

Back to School - Important Dates

All sixth graders and new students to TRMS will start school on Tuesday, August 15th from 7:45 a.m. – 2:50 p.m. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. Students do not need backpacks or supplies on this first day, however if they do not purchase hot lunch they may bring their own lunch. Our new students in 7th and 8th grade will be dismissed at 12:00 at the conclusion of lunch.

Returning 7th and 8th grade students will begin on Wednesday, August 16th from 7:45-2:50 p.m. for our first full day of school.

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, August 22nd at 6pm for our annual “Back to School Night.”   We set this night aside to give you the opportunity to meet your student’s teachers and get answers to any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you!

Annual Picture Day

Our annual Picture Day will be on Friday, August 18th.   Students will have their picture taken during elective classes. Order forms are available in the office and will also be sent home with students on the first day of school. Picture retakes are scheduled for Tuesday, September 26th.

TRMS Tech Corner - iPad Distribution

Returning 7th and 8th grade students will receive their iPads in core classes the week of August 21st. Parents/guardians do not need to be present during this time.

For 6th grade and new students, we will be hosting a parent iPad informational meeting on Tuesday, August 22nd at 5:00 p.m. This meeting will take place right before our Back To School Night event at 6:00 p.m. All 6th graders and new students must have a parent present at this meeting to complete paperwork. Students will then receive their iPads during class on August 24th. Those students with incomplete paperwork will not receive an iPad.

The LTP iPad Insurance window for the 2017-2018 school year opened August 1st and will close on September 5th. Parents who wish to join the insurance pool for this year will need to make at least a partial payment within this window. The 2017-18 Insurance cost is $35.

This optional insurance fee will be added for every student. The fee will be voided if no payment has been made by Sept. 15th. Students with unpaid insurance balances from last year will not have the optional insurance fee automatically added into Infinite Campus for this year. The past due amount must be paid before they can be eligible for this year’s insurance.

Infinite Campus Parent Portal

All student class schedules will be released and ready to view on Infinite Campus the morning of Monday, August 14th. Please contact the counseling office if you have any questions.

Please check your Infinite Campus (IC) accounts regularly for updated school information. If you do not have access to IC, please come in and see Melissa Manzanares to set up your account. She will be available in the office to assist you during regular office hours, 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Please bring a current ID with you. Access to IC allows you to view your student’s attendance and grades throughout the school year, as well as receive updated information from TRMS. If you have forgotten your password or your account has been disabled, please see Mrs. Manzanares to reset it.

At TRMS, we value the partnership that we have with families as we strive to do what is best for students. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teachers, counselors, or administrators throughout the year. We are here to help!

Request from the Office - Cell Phones

Cell Phones should not be used during the academic period. We ask that parents and students do not text/call students during class time. If you must get information to your child, please contact the front office and we would be happy to pass a message along. Thank you for your cooperation in our efforts to value your child’s and other students’ instructional time.

Attendance Matters

Attendance in school is one of the leading indicators of whether or not a child will graduate from high school. It is our goal to prepare 100% of our students for a successful high school career. Great attendance in middle school will help lead to great attendance in high school.

It is critical that you prioritize when your child is absent.

● Please schedule doctor, dentist, orthodontic appointments after school hours as much as possible.

● Plan family vacations during times that students are already scheduled for vacation.

● Students should be in attendance on their birthday if it falls on a school day.

● Plan for traffic in the morning.

● Being on time is a healthy habit! 10 minutes early is on time.

● Students should NOT be in school if they are throwing up or running a high fever. If they have a cough, sore throat, or just a tummy ache, they should be in class for the day.

Eddie Cloke, Principal
