How can STEM include art? Utilizing some of the most current technology the students at Trail Ridge Middle School are creating three-dimensional drawings and objects. The art department has focused their STEM integration on an advanced engineering program called Solidworks. The software allows the students to think and create in three dimensions. The students have been creating innovative designs that can alter the usage of a water bottle to help reduce waste and products that can help the students at TRMS.
On December 6th, 2014, Trail Ridge Middle school held their 3rd Annual Grizzly VEX Robotics Challenge. Thirty middle and high school teams from around Colorado gathered to compete in the Vex Robotics Competition - Skyrise. This all day event included qualifying and elimination rounds, a skills/programming field, and a judging room for teams to be interviewed with their engineering notebooks and robots.
Have you heard of Stem Leaders or whatever they are called? Well actually they are called STEM Student Leadership Team members. I know this sounds boring but they are the ones who decide and come up with the STEM Enrichment that you go to everyday. They also give tours, write blogs (like this one), and think of ways to make STEM better here at TRMS. If you have a STEM Enrichment that you really enjoy, you owe some credit to the members of SSLT.
Mrs. Thaler's advanced 6th graders are getting "Schooled" about tie-dye and Beatles music after reading the novel "Schooled" By: Gordon Korman. As a culminating activity to wrap up the novel, students are learning to tie-dye and work harmoniously with one another as the main character, Cap, did when he was suddenly thrust into "regular" school from his two person commune.

We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and less students are studying it than a decade ago.
